Reflection and Remembrance: The African Burial Ground 30 Years After Discovery
"These bones are bones of the shoulders we stand on," said Cyril Innis Jr. He and fellow Schomburg Center volunteer Dr. Patricia Leonard are two of the many activists, elected officials, and community leaders who worked to save the African Burial Ground. Both look back at their work 30 years after its discovery.
We hold the papers of the Federal Steering Committee, which recommended how officials should proceed after unearthing the site in our collections. Read the full story.
